Frequently Asked Questions
Have an aorta thrombosis in wall must have surgery. What is this and how long is recovery time?
I went for a physical 2 weeks ago, woke up the following Monday with severe abdominal pain, pain in left side, pain in between breast, pain in back and neck and trouble urinating. Went back to doctor, urine test showed blood in urine, was told I had a stone moving and ultra sound scheduled. I have had kidney stones in past and it did feel like that, but some of the other symptoms were knew to me. Could also not have a bowel movement. Was put on Nexium, and given pain pills. Went for ultra sound two days later. Results showed an 8mm stone and cysts on ovary, pain in chest was better and assumed that the Nexium was helping, but advised to see a Gastro doc. Still no bowel movement, drinking Prune juice, taking stool softners and High Fiber drink. Doc ordered CT scan to get better picture of stone and ovary, went for that test this past Wednesday, doctor has called to tell me no stone was found, cysts on ovaries and OB appt made, but said they have found a aorta Thrombosis in wall and I would need removed and they are getting me an appt with Vascular Surgeon. Question 1 how did that show up on a stomach CT scan? Question 2 I do have a 60% blockage in my aorta diagnosed 2 years ago, so before they do surgery wouldn't they want to check to make sure I have no other blockages as I have stents in my legs and have been having trouble walking again? Still no idea why I am having trouble urinating and why in 14 days only one bowel movement.
For open surgery on the abdomen, plan for a 5-7 day stay in the hospital and 2 - 3 MONTHS until you return to normal.
The aorta runs through the abdomen, so it would show on an abdominal CT.
